26-year-old Italian driver Michela Cerruti will enter the 2013 FIA F3 European Championship along with the Romeo Ferraris team.

Cerruti has spent most of her career in GT and touring car racing, winning a race in the Superstars Series for Romeo Ferraris in 2011. She made her debut in single-seaters last year, joining Victory Motor Racing in the Toyota Racing Series over in New Zealand to take 16th place in the standings. She continued to gain experience in the class, participating in part-time campaigns in European F3 Open and German F3 with RP Motorsport and EuroInternational respectively.

“I like to think that I will be competing in a highly competitive championship, full of really fast drivers,” said Cerruti. “There?s nothing I like better than a challenge that seems impossible. My whole career so far has been a series of leaps in the dark, and every year has brought a new and more difficult challenge, and I fully expect this to be the most demanding.”

Team principal Dario Calzavara added: “The decision to create the team was taken only seven weeks ago, so we are very pleased to be able to have our debut for the first race at Monza. The FIA Formula 3 European Championship promises to be the most important new championship in the field of international car racing, thanks to the extraordinary work done by Gerhard Berger and the FIA. For the Romeo Ferraris company, it constitutes a new and demanding challenge, which we will tackle with determination, but knowing also that we have much to learn.”

Romeo Ferraris are understood to be fielding a second car alongside Cerruti, her teammate to be announced at a later point in time.
