Ollie Bearman has been handed another unexpected opportunity to race for the Haas Formula 1 team in Brazil this weekend.
Bearman, who will step up from Formula 2 to race for Haas full-time in 2025, will once more step in for Kevin Magnussen on Friday at Interlagos, the team has announced.
Magnussen is suffering with sickness, and as this is a sprint event, Bearman will be required to drive not only in Friday’s sole practice session and the sprint qualifying but also in Saturday’s sprint race. Magnussen would be able to return for the main qualifying and race should Haas deem him fit to do so, or it may decide that Bearman should complete the weekend.
The FIA has granted Haas permission to replace Magnussen with Bearman “until further notice” for this race weekend.
Having made a surprise F1 debut with Ferrari in Jeddah earlier this year after Carlos Sainz was ruled out with appendicitis, he then got to make an early race debut with Haas at Baku when Magnussen picked up a one-race ban.
He has also driven in four free practice sessions at other events with Haas, plus in Mexico City last weekend for Ferrari.
He is due to see out his Formula 2 campaign with Prema when it resumes at the end of this month in Qatar, followed a week later by the season finale in Abu Dhabi. He is 15th in the F2 standings, just two places higher than he is in the F1 championship having scored in both of his Grand Prix starts so far this year.
