Lukas Dunner put Motopark offshoot CryptoTower Racing Team at the front on the second day of Euroformula’s official pre-season test at Hockenheim.
The Austrian – who finished third in the points last year and is set for a championship return – went underneath the official series track record using the new halo-shod Dallara 320.
His 1m31.137s lap was set in the morning, which featured a heavy crash at the final corner for Van Amersfoort Racing’s Alexandre Bardinon that forced him to miss the afternoon session.
The VAR contingent ended up being led by one car, as day one pacesetter Andreas Estner was absent due to exams.
His brother Sebastian, graduating from ADAC Formula 4, picked up the mantle and was second fastest to Dunner by 0.159s.
Double R Racing had two cars out on track, with Ayrton Simmons being joined by an unnamed driver. It was the latter who was faster, running just shy of Dunner’s pace in the morning and topping the afternoon session.
Ex-Renault Formula 1 junior Yifei Ye was fourth fastest in the second CrytpTower car, just ahead of Simmons. Motopark’s main team trio were a few tenths behind them.
In the ADAC F4 test running on track at the same time, Mucke Motorsport’s Joshua Duerksen was once again fastest by a very small margin over team-mate Josef Knopp.
R-ace GP’s Victor Bernier and US Racing’s Vladislav Lomko, the only F4 driver to set less than 100 laps, were third and fourth and were usually able to match the Mucke drivers on pace.
