Charles Milesi and Rui Andrade graduate to Formula 3 for 2019

by Ida Wood

MilesiFormula Renault Eurocup race-winner Charles Milesi and Formula 4 racer Rui Andrade have become the first signings for the 2019 seasons of Japanese Formula 3 and Euroformula Open respectively.

Milesi, still only 17 years old, will join the Carlin-partnered Okayama Team (also known as OIRC team YTB) after a season-and-a-half in FR2.0 and a 2017 campaign in French F4. The Frenchman tested Super Formula machinery late last year with Team LeMans.

Okayama Team ran one Dallara F318 chassis in Japanese F3 last year, one of just three on the grid, and finished seventh in the standings with Yoshiaka Katayama. In the post-season test it ran Katayama, Ferrari junior and likely Formula 2 driver Callum Ilott, and 2017 BRDC British F3 runner-up James Pull.

Andrade joins Drivex School in EF Open, having made his car racing debut with the team in Spanish F4 last year. He took two top five finishes, and is currently racing in F4 United Arab Emirates, where he is fourth in the standings.
