Richard Verschoor will return to MP Motorsport’s Formula 2 team for the final rounds of 2024 ahead of a 2025 campaign.

Verschoor will switch from Trident to replace Dennis Hauger, who has opted to leave F2 to focus on his move to Indy Nxt with Andretti.

Now 23, Verschoor has a long history with MP, dating back to his Formula 4 title double in the Spanish and Northern European Zone championships as a single-seater rookie in 2016.

He then stepped up to Formula Renault with the team, and in 2018 made his GP3 debut with MP ahead of two years together in FIA Formula 3, which culminated in victory at the Macau Grand Prix.

Verschoor made his F2 debut with MP in 2021, but ended that year with Charouz, before campaigns with Trident and Van Amersfoort Racing and a second spell at Trident this season.

He’s taken one victory in each season, a record he maintained when he won the most recent race, the feature contest at Baku. He sits 10th in this year’s standings, one place behind Hauger.

“Signing up with MP for more Formula 2 feels like coming home,” said Verschoor.

“I spent half of my entire racing career with MP, so it means a lot to me that we are able to move forward together for 2025 while also adding the two final 2024 rounds at Losail and Yas Marina. It’s been a partnership that has led to success in Formula 4, Formula 3 and Formula 2, including that legendary victory at Macau. I can’t wait to travel to Qatar and go back to working with the team once again.”

MP will end the season with a completely different line-up to the one it started with, after Franco Colapinto was promoted to Formula 1 with Williams and replaced by Oliver Goethe.

“I’m extremely happy to welcome back Richard for another season in Formula 2,” said team boss Sander Dorsman. “We have celebrated many wins together, so it’s a true privilege to tap into his wealth of Formula 2 knowledge as we head towards a new season. Richard returning to the MP fold is testament to the way we go racing as a family, and he has always fitted right in.

“Meanwhile, I would like to thank Dennis for his huge contribution to the team in the past two F2 seasons. Three wins, nine podiums and two poles is no mean feat, and I am certain that he will take his career to a new level in North America. Dennis has all the talent to succeed in the US and we are convinced that his first American victory is just around the corner. We wish him the best of luck.”

Trident added that Verschoor was leaving by mutual agreement.
