Van Amersfoort Racing’s Richard Verschoor has been disqualified from second place in the Formula 2 sprint race at Spa-Francorchamps for using a throttle map not approved by the FIA.
Verschoor started second on the grid, and moved to the front after Jehan Daruvala lost his headrest and had to retire. He set the fastest lap while pulling away from the field, but lost the lead to Enzo Fittipaldi on the penultimate lap and finished second.
“A defined throttle pedal progressivity map programmed in position 1 of the steering wheel throttle map rotary knob must be used during all formation lap starts and race starts until the car speed reaches 50 km/h,” read the stewards’ decision. “Car 22 [Verschoor] used a different throttle map at the race start.”
His disqualification now drops Verschoor from seventh to ninth in the drivers’ standings, while the main beneficiaries are ART Grand Prix’s Theo Pourchaire and MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger.
Pourchaire moves up to second place, meaning he reduces Frederik Vesti’s championship lead by a point to six points, and Hauger gets his fourth podium of the season by moving up to third in the race results.
