Tom Mills took a comfortable victory from pole in the opening GB4 race of the weekend at Silverstone.

The Kevin Mills Racing driver was briefly headed however, as Fortec Motorsports’ Colin Queen made the better start from the inside of the front row to beat Mills in Copse.

Mills quickly fought back, drawing alongside Queen into Maggotts before reclaiming the lead through Becketts.

Queen then found himself in a three-wide battle with Liam McNeilly and Cooper Webster on the Hangar Straight, with McNeilly coming out on top to take second.

Mills took advantage of the trio’s squabble to build a one-second lead on the opening lap, and the championship leader edged further clear in nine-lap contest to triumph by 2.8 seconds.

McNeilly kept Queen behind him until the finish, the pair separated by 0.4s at the chequered flag, and Webster was not far behind them in fourth for Evans GP.

Ruhaan Alva prevailed in an opening-lap dice with Aditya Kulkarni, the Fortec team-mates remaining in sixth and seventh afterwards, while Sid Smith gained two places on the opening lap to finish eighth.

Graham Brunton Racing’s Harry Burgoyne Jnr prevailed in three-way scrap for ninth with VRD’s debutants Zack Ping and Erik Evans.

Evans moved ahead of his team-mate at the start, and then managed to squeeze past Burgoyne on the Wellington Straight, with Ping following him through into Brooklands. Evans and Ping were involved in an entertaining battle after that, but they both lost out to Burgoyne in the closing stages.
