McLaren Formula 1 junior Ugo Ugochukwu will race in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine with Prema in 2024.

The American recently won the Euro 4 Championship with Prema and finished second in the Italian Formula 4 standings at the end of his second year in car racing. His first in 2022 was focused on British F4 with Carlin, where he finished third.

Ugochukwu has been testing in Formula 3 with Carlin over recent weeks and will step up to the category to race in the Macau Grand Prix with Trident this month, but it’s in FRegional that he will race next year.

“We are extremely delighted to announce Ugo for the 2024 FREC season,” said Prema chief Rene Rosin.

“He showed his potential in F4 this year, scoring wins and performing in key moments, which make him a good prospect for the year ahead. We really had a great run in the last couple of seasons in the series, and it’s looking like we will have a strong line-up again in 2024.  We look forward to beginning preparations.”

Prema has won the last two FREC titles with Dino Beganovic and Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

“After a successful year in F4, I am happy to announce that I will move up to the Formula Regional European Championship next season with Prema Racing,” Ugochukwu said. “I am looking forward to this new challenge in my career, and with the continued support of the McLaren Driver Development Programme I am confident we will have another positive year together.”
