Italian kart racer Alberto Di Folco was unveiled today as one of the two drivers in Team Torino Motorsport’s Formula Renault 2.0 Alps lineup.
For Di Folco, 16, the 2013 season will mark his debut in single-seater racing, as the youngster has spent the previous two years competing in the KF2 category in karting, finishing eighth in the KF2’s CIK-FIA World Cup in 2012.
“I am happy to start this new adventure,” said Di Folco. “With Team Torino Motorsport last year I?ve already taken part in a testing session and had a good time doing so. As this will be my first season in single-seater racing, I will try to gain as much experience as possible to ensure a steady improvement. At the moment I?m eager to test the car in the 2013 configuration.”
“We are pleased to have a rookie in our line-up,” added team owner Marco Braghero. “In the past few seasons Team Torino Motorsport has always worked with young talents coming over from karting with the aim of allowing them to improve quickly. Alberto has massive potential. We’ll do our best to help him achieve good results. Soon we?ll begin our testing programme in order to be ready and fit for the first round scheduled at Vallelunga in the beginning of April”.
Team Torino Motorsport ran four drivers in the 2012 season of FR2.0 Alps, with Alejandro Abogado contesting a full-time campaign, Luis Michael Dorrbecker and Simone Iaquinta running at select events and Alexey Chulkin making one appearance for the team, during the season finale at Catalunya. The team finished sixth in the overall standings with 41 points, 39 of those coming courtesy of Iaquinta (who recorded a best finish of fourth) and two scored by Dorrbecker.
