Tim Tramnitz’s long-anticipated move to R-ace GP in the Formula Regional European Championship has been confirmed.
A deal to drive for R-ace last year was undone pre-season by a back-breaking crash in a Formula 4 car while serving as a reference driver at a test, but Tramnitz was still able to recover in time for the FREC season and he joined the debuting Trident.
In a campaign impacted by mechanical niggles, Tramnitz was able to put himelf 15th in the standings with seven points finishes and a best result of fourth place. At the start of this year he joined R-ace in FRegiona Middle East for two rounds.
”R-ace GP has shown really good results over the last years and has a lot of experience in FREC,” said Tramnitz. “I also felt very good within the team during the winter testing.
“I’m really looking forward to show good performances and results. Beside I’m really happy to drive in Hockenheim this year. It’s really nice to have a race in Germany and Hockenheim is one of my favorite tracks.”
Before FRegional, Tramnitz spent two years racing in F4. He was fourth in Germany’s ADAC series in 2020, then runner-up in both it and Italian F4 in 2021.
Thibaut de Merindol, R-ace’s team principal, added: “I have been in contact with Tim and his surroundings and follow his performances since his first year in F4 in 2020, year he won the rookie title. During winter tests of 2021, Tim convinced us with his sportsmanship but also how he adapted quickly to the team.
“Unfortunately, we have not succeeded in bringing together the conditions to make him drive in 2022, so we are pleased to count him among us this season. We are very much looking forward this season with him since all the tests in 2021 and 2022 were very conclusive. We aim to fight for victories and for the title.”
Tramnitz is the first of the team’s drivers to be announced for the season ahead.
