Race Performance Motorsport signs Maceo Capietto for FREC

by Ida Wood

Race Performance Motorsport has signed Maceo Capietto as the third driver in its Formula Regional European Championship line-up for 2023.

Capietto joins the Irish-owned, Italy-based team from Monolite Racing, with whom he finished 22nd in the standings last season. He scored five times in his rookie campaign, with a best finish of seventh.

This year will be Capietto’s third in single-seater racing, having come third in the French Formula 4 championship in 2021. That season he won four races and fought for the title until the final round, which he was disqualified from.

“It’s a privilege to be racing with such a competitive team,” said Capietto. “In their first season last year they achieved more than others could from the start of the season, showing great pace at every track with a pole and even podiums.

“The team is full of hard workers pushing to fight for the title and that’s definitely the target in 2023. One year to learn, one year to win.”

Capietto will be team-mate to fellow series sophomore Santiago Ramos and F4 graduate Adam Fitzgerald. There were two podiums for R-P-M during its first year in FREC, but both were achieved by a guest driver so no points were earned by the team from those results.

R-P-M team owner Keith Donegan said: ”We are very happy to welcome Maceo to R-P-M for this season. He is an exciting young talent and has performed very well over the winter tests so I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do together this year.”
