Konstantin Tereshchenko converted his Friday practice pace into an important Saturday pole position at the Euroformula Open finale at Barcelona, while championship leader Vitor Baptista ended up in fifth.

The Campos driver, who comfortably led the field before the mid-session pit stops, was the last one to improve to steal the lead from Yu Kanamaru.

The Japanese driver ended up second with the second row of the grid made up of two more Campos and EmiliodeVillota entries, Diego Menchaca and DTM driver Daniel Juncadella, who is racing this weekend in order to qualify for Macau GP.

The Spaniard was only half a tenth faster than Baptista who, should he and Tereshchenko finish in the same positions during the race, will see his championship lead shrink from 31 to 16 and the Russian remain in contention.

Leonardo Pulcini ended up sixth ahead of Yarin Stern, who edged fellow West-Tec driver Tanart Sathienthirakul by 0.005s.

The top ten was completed by Kang Ling and debutant Ferdinand Habsburg,?whose session was cut short after he pitted several minutes before the end.
