Spanish F4 leader Kas Haverkort to make Eurocup debut at Barcelona

by Ida Wood

Spanish Formula 4 leader Kas Haverkort will make his Formula Renault Eurocup debut this weekend at Barcelona with MP Motorsport.

The 16-year-old Dutchman made his first single-seater racing starts with MP this year in F4, and has won seven out of the first 12 races in the Spanish series as a rookie.

He also continued his successful karting career by making a winning appearance in the German championship.

“Very happy to announce that I will be driving the sixth round of the Formula Renault Eurocup this weekend in Barcelona with MP Motorsport,” said Haverkort.

“Tomorrow is going to be my first time in the Formula Renault ever so let’s see what we can do this weekend.”

The Barcelona one-off is preparation for an expected full-time move up to the Eurocup in 2021, most likely with MP.

Haverkort takes the place of FIA Formula 3 Championship racer Roman Stanek in MP’s third car, which was driven by reigning Asian F3 champion Joey Alders in the first two rounds of the season before he hit budget issues.

The team’s other two drivers are reigning Spanish F4 champion Franco Colapinto, who is currently fourth in the points, and Renault junior Hadrien David.

At the halfway point of the Eurocup season, ART Grand Prix’s Victor Martins leads R-ace GP’s Renault junior Caio Collet by two points after 10 races. Martins has won four races to Collet’s two, while the chasing car racing rookie David Vidales (JD Motorsport) and Colapinto have also taken wins in 2020.
