Mattia Colnaghi will step up to Eurocup-3 this year with MP Motorsport, the team he won the 2024 Spanish Formula 4 title with.
The 16-year-old Italian had a stunning rookie year in single-seater racing as an MP driver, scoring points in two Formula Winter Series outings to get used to an F4 car then romping to the Spanish F4 title with a run of late form that included four wins and three other podiums in the last eight races.
At the end of 2024 he made his Formula Regional debut in the Macau Grand Prix, qualifying and finishing in 14th. Eurocup-3 uses a FRegional-based car.
“I am extremely happy to continue my journey up the Formula 1 ladder with MP Motorsport,” said Colnaghi.
“Thanks to the team, my dream came true this year, so it was an easy decision for me to stay in 2025. MP had a very strong season in Eurocup-3 and won the teams’ championship, so you can rightly call them the best team in the class. A season in Eurocup-3 therefore gives me the best possible chance to progress and go for the win again.
“The calendar looks great, full of beautiful circuits that I am eager to get to know, so I can’t wait to get started.”
Colnaghi will be team-mate to Alexander Abkhazava, fellow F4 graduate Maciej Gladysz and Valerio Rinicella.
“Everyone at MP is delighted that Mattia will remain with the team for 2025,” said team principal Sander Dorsman.
“We were confident that he would become a star after winning the Richard Mille Young Talent Academy Shootout [in 2023 to earn his Spanish F4 seat] and he immediately proved us right with a convincing title in his first year in motorsport. We now want to support him further in his development by helping him move up the F1 ladder. The growing Eurocup-3 class is the obvious next step for a talent of his calibre.”
