Ayrton Simmons will make a second BRDC British Formula 3 appearance of the year in this weekend’s Silverstone season finale, joining the JHR Developments team he drove for in British Formula 4.
The 19-year-old was British F4 title runner-up with JHR in 2018, with four wins to his name, and stepped up to British F3 that same year with Chris Dittmann Racing.
He earned a best finish of fourth from three rounds, and came third in the points in a full season with the team in 2019. Simmons then made a winning return with CDR at Brands Hatch this August, and will now make a second cameo with JHR.
“Delighted to announce that I will be joining forces with JHR after three years apart, I will race in BRDC British F3 at Silverstone,” said Simmons. “Really happy to be able to help them continue their development in this championship.”
After making two Asian F3 appearances in 2019, Simmons started 2020 by stepping up to continental competition full-time in Euroformula with Double R Racing.
His budget ran out after half of the season though, leaving him 11th in the points and after picking up only one top-five finish from a difficult first four rounds where he was the team’s only driver in the new halo-shod Dallara 320.
JHR meanwhile has only contested two British F3 rounds so far, after delaying its entry into the championship from 2019, and has fellow British F3 graduate Carter Williams driving alongside Simmons at Silverstone after Max Marzorati left the team to join CDR.
