Sergio Sette Camara sets F2 free practice pace at Abu Dhabi

by Ida Wood

Sergio Sette Camara led a DAMS one-two in free practice for the Formula 2 season finale at Abu Dhabi.

It was MP Motorsport’s Mahaveer Raghunathan who set the pace at the start, before the usual frontrunners came to the fore.

Carlin’s Louis Deletraz was next to move to the top, before F2 champion and Mercedes-Benz Formula E driver lowered the benchmark laptime to under two minutes.

The times continued to drop dramatically, with Sette Camara setting his 1m51.941s lap before the halfway point of the session.

There was no change at the front after that, with Sette Camara’s DAMS team-mate Nicholas Latifi moving up to second place, just 0.001s faster than Virtuosi Racing’s Guanyu Zhou.

Sauber junior Callum Ilott was only a little further back in fourth, with early pacesetter Deletraz completing the top five.

The session ended several minutes early when Ilott’s team-mate Matevos Isaakyan crashed at Turn 19 and brought out the red flags.
