Marino Sato was fastest in the second Euroformula Open free practice session at the Red Bull Ring, setting his best time moments before rain hit.

After a string of fastest laps put him into a comfortable first place, it looked like Double R Racing’s Jack Doohan was the man to beat. The Australian held top spot until the final few minutes, when Motopark’s Sato and Double R team-mate Linus Lundqvist both beat his benchmark.

Once the rain did fall, the only improvement made was by Aldo Festante down in 12th, putting him directly behind Teo Martin Motorsport team-mate and home favourite Lukas Dunner.

Julian Hanses (Motopark) made improvements from the first session to go fourth, ahead of RP Motorsport’s Javier Gonzalez. The team currently looks at its strongest since its championship return. Carlin was the benchmark team from the morning, but slipped down to sixth, seventh and eighth with Nicolai Kjaergaard, Christian Hahn and Billy Monger.

Calan Williams put the sole Fortec Motorsports car in ninth, while his former team-mate Cameron Das continued his struggled at new team Motopark down in 13th.
