PaddockScout’s Weekend Performance of the Year
Carlos Sainz
Formula Renault 3.5, Spa-Francorchamps
Full disclosure – after lengthy discussions, we managed to narrow it down to three potential winners – Sainz, Stoneman and Ocon. But picking between the three was mighty tough.
Ocon’s three wins weren’t just domination, but a demonstration of his sheer composure and ability to rebound. Stoneman’s Sochi prowess wasn’t just a feel-good story, but was a clear indicator of his superb ability to adapt and a vindication for his new team after that car scored no points all season.
But, in the end, you can’t argue with dominance. And wiping the floor with an entire Formula Renault 3.5 field on a track that is usually quite suited for creating close match-ups is no mean feat.
He’s had some tough years recently, but Carlos Sainz shined in 2014 and nowhere was that more apparent than in Spa.
For that, his double victory at the Belgian track is our 2014 Weekend Performance of the Year.
