AUTO - WORLD SERIES BY RENAULT CATALUNYA 2013

Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0

Having already been a household name in junior single-seaters for several years, the Eurocup received a severe reputation boost when two of its most recent champions – Robin Frijns and Stoffel Vandoorne – showcased the full extent of their talents in Formula Renault 3.5. With that in mind, however, the 2013 season was another crucial one, as the championship looked to continue its streak of strong grids.

In that regard, it was especially surprising when the unveiled 2.0 entry list wound up being arguably the best in the series’ history. The championship boasted a huge roster of talent – those with and without previous 2.0 experience, coming from F3 or local F4-level backgrounds, proven winners and aspiring challengers.

Throughout the year, many of them got their opportunity to shine. Whilst most of the attention was drawn to the spectacular title fight between Oliver Rowland and Pierre Gasly, there were multiple other talents emerging from the championship’s superb midfield.? The likes of Luca Ghiotto, Ignazio D’Agosto and Egor Orudzhev produced several strong performances and maintained the stunning depth of the championships field.

The racing was appropriately solid, creating a number of especially memorable events, punctuated by maiden successes for many of the talents in the field. Even despite the occasional dominance of the leading duo, the series seemed rather evenly-matched and, as such, would often create unpredictable scenarios.

After a great 2013, the Eurocup’s next season is looking solid as well, as many of this year’s crop are set to contest it again alongside highly-rated new names.
