Niccolo Maccganani’s anticipated move to the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Trident for 2027 has been confirmed.
Still only 16, the Ferrari Driver Academy member has already picked up experience in the third tier of single-seaters through two cameos this September.
He joined Rodin Motorsport for the F3 finale at the new Madring circuit, finishing 28th, 18th and 24th in the three races of the triple-header, then two weeks later drove for BVM Racing in Euroformula’s round at Monza. Maccagnani finished fourth on debut, and made the podium in his second race.
His main focus in 2026 has been Formula 4, where he has been part of Prema’s fleet of drivers. At the start of the year he won twice en route to fourth in the UAE4 standings, then was 13th in E4 where he claimed a pole and a podium as a part-timer, and he currently sits 12th in Italian F4’s points table having missed the last two rounds. There were two wins and two other podiums for Maccagnani before he dropped off the grid.
“We are delighted to announce the arrival of Niccolo,” said Trident’s team manager Giacomo Ricci. “Niccolo is a young driver who has already demonstrated his speed and potential, excelling in the junior formulae.
“The FIA F3 Championship will represent a significant challenge, with cars and a competitiveness level that are higher than anything he has faced so far. We are ready to provide Niccolo with full support in this new phase of his career, working together to foster his growth and allow him to fully express his talents and perform a competitive season.”
Trident’s three-car line-up next year is completed by Kean Nakamura-Berta and Sebastian Wheldon.
