Matheo Tuscher will contest his first race of 2013 when he makes his Formula Renault 3.5 debut at Motorland Aragon with the Zeta Corse team.
After finishing runner-up in last year?s FIA Formula Two Championship, Tuscher, who turned 16 last December, had yet to secure a race seat for the coming season.
He now replaces Emmanuel Piget, 13 years his senior, at Zeta for round two of the Formula Renault 3.5 season. The team?s other driver, Mihai Marinecsu, scored two points finishes on their first outing at Monza.
Tuscher tested the FR3.5 car with Pons at the end of 2012, and will get his first running with Zeta in a rescheduled test session at Aragon on Thursday.
?We have an intense weekend ahead of us and we’re proud to field a talented racer like Tuscher, who scored sensational results in the FIA F2 Series topping some more experienced drivers that race in our series,? said Claudio Corradini, Zeta team manager.
?It’s going to be a challenge because he only had a quick test with the 3.5 Dallara with another team. Luckily, this weekend cars will be running on Thursday to regain the time lost when the Aragon test was cancelled for bad weather. Then we will have two sessions of free practice which leave quite some room for teams and driver. Tuscher will have the chance to put a lot of kilometres under his belt and by the time he hits qualifying 1, he will have some experience to take advantage of.?
