Esteban Masson claimed first advantage in the Eurocup-3 title decider at Barcelona with pole position for Saturday’s opening race.

Fresh from taking part in the final round of the World Endurance Championship in Bahrain last weekend in a Ferrari GTE car, Campos Racing driver Masson led both practice sessions on Saturday morning after rival Mari Boya had topped Thursday’s collective test.

Boya was the first driver to dip into the 1m36s with 10 minutes of qualifying remaining, but Masson soon shot to the top of the times with a 1m36.200s that would not be beaten.

Team-mate Tasanapol Inthrapuvasak got closest, 0.498 seconds away.

Jose Garfias moved up to third with his fial attempt of the session, putting himself ahead of his MP Motorsport team-mates Sebastian Ogaard and Boya, who is set to start fifth.

With two bonus points for taking pole, Masson is now three points ahead of Boya.

Emmo Fittipaldi qualified ninth after joining Palau Motorsport for the final round, behind Francesco Braschi, Bruno del Pino and Nick Gilkes.
