Marino Sato timed his qualifying run perfectly to take a second straight pole for the second Euroformula Open race at Hockenheim.
The Motopark driver was the last to head on track for the second runs, and so the last to complete a lap once the chequered flag had fell. He ended up going 0.047 seconds faster than team-mate Yuki Tsunoda.
Earlier in the session, Sato had aborted a banker lap that would’ve put him in first place from the first runs, and did not appear at the top of the timesheet again until the very end.
His Motopark team-mates Liam Lawson and Julian Hanses ensured the team will fill the front two rows of the grid, with Teo Martin Motorsport’s Lukas Dunner the best of the rest and over half a second off Sato’s time.
Dunner would likely have been the second fastest Teo Martin car had he not got in the way of team-mate Aldo Festante when he was running quickly and getting his tyres up to speed. Festante could only manage eighth place in the end, behind Double R Racing’s Linus Lundqvist and Jack Doohan.
Carlin’s Christian Hahn was ninth fastest, with team-mate Nicolai Kjaergaard completing the top 10 on the basis of setting the same lap time as Fortec Motorsports’ Cameron Das but having done so earlier in the session.
