Malthe Jakobsen was crowned Danish Formula 4 champion in the Jyllandsringen season finale, although he failed to win a race.

The teenager started the weekend by setting an ominous pace in free practice and qualifying, taking pole by 0.399 seconds over Valdemar Eriksen. His sole title rival Jonas Lindhard Nielsen qualified fourth.

While Jakobsen’s victory chances last some time, Nielsen’s chance of overcoming his points deficit to Jakobsen evaporated almost immediately in race one as he dropped to sixth place.

Team FSP driver Jakobsen led the first half of the race, but once Eriksen had got through there was no chance of him reclaiming the position. Mikkel Grundtvig was also on his tail, and he demoted Jakobsen to third a few laps later.

The championship leader only just held on to that position, as team-mate Largim Ali closed to within 0.356s at the chequered flag. Nielsen made up one place when Mads Hoe retired, but it wasn’t enough to stop Jakobsen becoming champion.

He got to start in second place for the reversed grid race two, and after passing F4 Lights winner Lucas Daugaard at the start went on to take an easy win.

A late charge by Grundtvig brought him second place, with Mads Hoe making similar progress (from the back of the grid) to take third. Jakobsen climbed to second on the opening lap but faded later on to a distant fourth ahead of Eriksen, who had made a false start.

The final race of the weekend proved controversial, with a dominant win for Grundtvig over Jakobsen being overshadowed by disqualifications for both Eriksen and Nielsen. Finishing in third meant, as a result, Mads Hoe snatched third in the standings from Eriksen.
