Kevin Magnussen became the first man to take both pole positions in one weekend in World Series by Renault’s 2013 season, narrowly edging out a number of other competitors in a closely fought battle.

A lap from Magnussen with three minutes to go was good enough to overcome most of the late-ditch efforts of the others, giving him pole position by 0.165s. In second, it was Nico Muller who salvaged a rather mediocre session with a strong last-lap flyer.

Local driver Stoffel Vandoorne was third, ahead of Nigel Melker and Will Stevens. Antonio Felix da Costa, having led the session early on, found himself in sixth, with Lucas Foresti in seventh place.

In eighth, Carlos Sainz completed another masterful qualifying effort, with the experienced pairing of Carlos Huertas and Mikhail Aleshin on row five.
