Linus Lundqvist has secured his place on the 2022 Indy Lights grid, and will spend his second season in the championship with HMD Motorsports.

As a rookie he drove a car that was co-run by Global Racing Group and HMD after winning the 2020 Formula Regional Americas title with GRG, and will now move into HMD’s main line-up alongside Christian Bogle and Danial Frost.

While Lundqvist won on his Indy Lights debut, he came third in last year’s points table behind IndyCar-bound Kyle Kirkwood and David Malukas, and picked up two more wins after his maiden success.

“I’m super happy and very excited to be back for another year in Indy Lights together with HMD,” said Lundqvist.

“First off, I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has made this possible – to my sponsors and partners, and everyone who’s been supporting me.

“It’s great to be back with people that I know, and a car that I know. We had a strong season last year, but we want more – we are back to try and win the championship. I am confident that we can do it, and very excited to get going in just a few weeks’ time!”

The 2022 Indy Lights season kicks off on the streets of St. Petersburg on February 27, with various private tests on road courses having taken place over winter for drivers and teams to prepare themselves.

“Linus brings a great deal of experience and speed to HMD Motorsports in 2022,” HMD’s general manager Mike Maurini said.

“Last year, he competed at tracks that he had never seen, but it always seemed that he would find himself close to the front of the field. His rookie season was awarded with three victories and that is pretty impressive in a season that was one of the most competitive in a while, and only saw three different race winners.”
