Spanish Formula 4 runner-up Sebastian Ogaard will graduate to Euroformula for 2022, completing Van Amersfoort Racing’s line-up.
The Dane has raced in F4 since 2019, making his debut in the Spanish championship finale that year then coming 13th in Italian F4 in 2020 in a full campaign. He also did two of Danish F4’s three rounds and won three races to be third in the points.
Last year he moved back to Spanish F4 with the debuting Campos Racing team and with five race wins was the title runner-up.
“I feel ready to make the switch to a higher level of racing,” said Ogaard, who recently turned 18.
“My time in F4 has prepared me well and I cannot wait to get going in the Euroformula Open championship. I am very thankful for the opportunity to race with Van Amersfoort Racing this season.
“They performed well in the championship last year and claimed podium finishes as well as the rookie championship title. For sure I will face a learning curve, but I am extremely eager to learn and perform. Can’t wait to get started with winter testing in Barcelona.”
His team-mates at VAR are the Formula 3-experienced Filip Ugran and Formula Regional regular Nicola Marinangeli.
”We are happy with Sebastian’s joining,” said Rob Niessink, VAR’s chief executive officer.
“It is clear that Sebastian has a good portion of raw talent. He is an intelligent driver and has a natural ability to communicate well with the team, which will obviously help him progress.
“Of course, we realise that this is his first year in the EFO car, so it will not be a walk in the park for him, but we believe that he and his team-mates form a great pack of drivers that are able to pull out the best of each other.”
The 2022 Euroformula grid now stands at nine cars, with none of the British having announced drivers yet.
