British F4 leader Louis Foster: Thruxton was ‘damage limitation’

by Bethonie Waring

British Formula 4 championship leader Louis Foster has described the most recent round at Thruxton as “damage limitation” after a difficult opening race.

Foster claimed pole on the Saturday morning but a series of mistakes made the Double R Racing driver tumble down the order of that day’s race.

He finished 10th as team-mate Sebastian Alvarez drastically cut his championship lead. Though he said he didn?t ?deserve? victory, Foster believes he had the pace to finish higher up the order.

?I think I had the fastest lap but I got unlucky, made a few mistakes which cost me four places each,? he told Formula Scout.

?I made mistakes which was my fault, but we didn?t deserve P10. We probably didn?t deserve the win because of my mistakes but we probably deserved a P5. But that happens, so the rest of the weekend was just damage limitation.?

Foster kept his head down in a chaotic race two to climb up to fourth, before challenging Carlin?s Zane Maloney for the victory in the closing stages of race three. He leaves Thruxton just five points ahead of Alvarez, with Maloney a further seven points behind.

?We had a difficult weekend,? he said. ?We should have been able to get a race win [in race one] with the pace we had. Blips happen in racing and we?ll just have to come back stronger.
