Carlin driver Jordan King has taken his maiden British F3 pole position in qualifying for the season finale at Nurburgring, narrowly beating his main championship rival Will Buller.

The British duo spent the majority of the 30-minute session in a two-way battle for the lead. At half-time, the Northern Irishman topped the timesheets with a great lap from the opening stint, but King managed to overhaul Buller’s effort with ten minutes to go, which ended up securing him pole for race one.

Double R’s Antonio Giovinazzi withstood the challenge from the rest of the Carlin crew to take third, with Nicholas Latifi and Jann Mardenborough lining up behind. Felipe Guimaraes was the final driver within a second off the lead, occupying sixth place, with Spike Goddard in seventh.

Recently crowned National Class champion Sun Zheng was the highest-placed car in his category, taking 11th overall.

For race three, King will again line up on pole, with Buller and Giovinazzi completing the top three.
