Rodin Motorsport’s James Piszcyk claimed a double pole position in British Formula 4 qualifying at Silverstone.
Piszcyk spent the first half of qualifying swapping times at the top of the order. But early in the second stint, Piszcyk set a flying lap around the Silverstone grand prix circuit that nobody else could match.
Piszcyk’s lap-time of 2m01.034s was almost two tenths of a second clear of the next fastest driver when he set it. The field spent the remaining 10 minutes of qualifying lowering the gap to Piszcyk’s time. Ethan Jeff-Hall came closest, but was still 0.058s off Piszcyk’s pace.
Piszcyk’s second fastest lap time was enough to put him on pole position for the first race of the weekend, starting alongside Martin Molnar.
Molnar had been top of the order mid-way through the session. He slipped backwards as others found improvements, but jumped back up to third in a late flurry of times that also placed Fionn McLaughlin fourth.
Multiple drivers had lap times disallowed for exceeding track limits, including Jeff-Hall and Argenti’s August Raber, who bounced back to go fifth quickest ahead of Henry Joslyn.
After setting the pace in Thursday practice, Thomas Bearman had a slow start to qualifying, but jumped up to fourth from the tail end of the times late in the session. Improvements elsewhere in the pack then dropped him backwards, but Bearman improved again on his final flying lap to place seventh.
Early championship leader Tommy Harfield qualified eighth, as Rowan Campbell-Pilling and early pace-setter Adam Al Azhari completed the top 10.
