Jake Hughes quickest on BRDC F4 test day at Snetterton

Jake Hughes posted the fastest time on a test day at Snetterton ahead of this weekend’s first ever round of the BRDC Formula 4 Championship at Silverstone.

The Lanan Racing driver posted a best lap of 1m51.009s during the afternoon, putting him 0.119s clear of morning pacesetter Jake Dalton.

“After today I think I can definitely challenge for wins,” said Hughes, who is embarking on his first full season of car racing. “Points are ultimately the main objective but I?m going to be trying to get the most points coming away from the first round.

?It was good to have a first chance to see where everyone is in terms of time, and I think we progressed well throughout the day, switching from used to new tyres to try different set ups, and towards the end of the day I think we found a set up which suits me well. The lap wasn?t perfect though and there?s still more time to come – I think I could have gone even quicker.”

Privateer Matt Bell was third, four tenths off the pace, ahead of Telmex-backed Diego Menchaca. Ginetta Junior champion Charlie Robertson took fifth spot, ahead of the man he beat to that title, Sennan Fielding.

Brazilian Gustavo Lima, fresh from a race win in South American F3 last weekend, was seventh ahead of compatriot Pietro Fittipaldi. Matthew Graham and Falco Wauer completed the top ten.

18 cars took part in the test, with Hillspeed absent after their transporter suffered a road accident on Monday.
