Ivan Domingues will step up to the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Van Amersfoort Racing this year.
The Portuguese driver has been with VAR since 2023, his second year in Formula 4, when he finished 11th in both the Italian and Euro 4 series.
He also contested the last two rounds of that year’s Formula Regional European Championship with the team ahead of a full campaign in 2024. He would claim two podium finishes last year on his way to 10th in the standings.
Brad Joyce, team principal at VAR, said Domingues “has shown great results and determination” during his last two years with the team.
“We’re confident he’ll be a fantastic addition to our lineup and we’re excited to work together to achieve more good results on track again and be part of his development,” he said.
Domingues is the second driver confirmed for VAR’s F3 line-up for 2025 alongside former FREC rival Theophile Nael.
“I feel very positive and confident about racing with VAR for the 2025 season in the FIA F3 Championship,” said Domingues. “It will be my third year with the team and I can’t wait for the start of this new challenge.”
Driving alongside Domingues and Nael at VAR for the majority of post-season testing last autumn was John Bennett, who has since stepped up to Formula 2 with the team. Jesse Carrasquedo did drive on one day in Nael’s place in the opening test at Jerez, though he went on to do both days of the Barcelona test with AIX Racing – which still has two vacancies in its line-up alongside Javier Sagrera.
