Italian racer Simone Iaquinta opened up his win tally for 2013 with a win in the reverse-grid Formula Abarth race at Vallelunga.
It was Federico Pezzolla who had pole after finishing sixth in race one, but he stalled on the grid and gave up first to fellow front row man Aku Pellinen. However, the Finn did not have the pace to match the quick Iaquinta, who was soon leading the race and remained in that position until the checkered flag.
Alessio Rovera, race one winner, didn’t enjoy the best of starts, but was soon overtaking cars left and right, clearly having the pace to stand on the top step of the podium yet again. However, the couple of laps spent behind Michele Beretta for second cost him precious time and he was forced to settle for the runner-up spot.
Beretta’s great start allowed him to finish third, ahead of Pellinen and Luis Michael Dorrbecker. Russians Vitaly Larionov and Sergey Trofimov followed, ahead of Pezzolla, Lukas Moraes and Loris Spinelli.
