Reigning BRDC F4 champion Jake Hughes finished on top of the first day of testing for the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC cars at Assen.

Hughes, driving for Mark Burdett Motorsport, timed his run to perfection, setting his fastest time of the day in session two out of four.

Fortec’s rookie Ben Barnicoat finished almost 0.3s down on Hughes, having impressively managed top top the other three sessions of running during the day.

Martin Kodric‘s time in practice three took him to third overall, with the Croatian ending up just 0.02s behind teammate Barnicoat.

Another Fortec racer – newly-appointed Caterham junior Seb Morris – took fourth, with Hughes’ teammate at Mark Burdett Motorsport – Raoul Owens – rounding out the top five.

Jorge Cevallos finished the day in sixth, while Roy Geerts moved into seventh with a second-best lap in session four. The Dutchman’s fellow AVF drivers – Josef Zaruba and Matthew Graham – took eighth and ninth respectively, while Euronova’s Ukyo Sasahara picked up P10.
