Felipe Guimaraes continued to be the man to beat in this year’s Formula 3 Brazil Open, taking a comfortable lights-to-flag victory in difficult weather conditions.
Guimaraes controlled the race for all the 16 laps and, although in the end second finisher Roberto La Rocca managed to significantly decrease the gap between himself and first place, it was not enough to threaten the lead.
The rest of the pack were involved in what appears to be a number of accidents on lap one, with Dmitry Suranovich being the only driver to emerge out of the chaos with his car relatively intact, which allowed him to cruise to third place.
“Class B” drivers Gustavo Lima and Eduardo Banzoli finished three and five laps down on the leader respectively, after picking up damage on the first lap, while Raphael Raucci retired the car after six laps.
The finishing order for race one will determine the grid for race two and, as such, Guimaraes will once again start from pole. A combination of race one and race two results will then shape the grid for race three.
