Gerrard Xie has landed a step up to FIA Formula 3 with Hitech for 2025 after winning with the team in GB3 this year.
Xie burst onto the single-seater scene in 2022 when he dominated his native Chinese Formula 4 championship with 12 wins from 14 races, came second in the Macau Grand Prix that used the same cars and also claimed the Formula Renault Super Challenge.
His association with Hitech began at the start of 2023 when the team supported his move into GB3 with the Hillspeed squad, and he finished 20th in the standings with a first win in the reversed-grid season finale.
Xie was moved into Hitech’s line-up for his second season in GB3 in 2024 and most notably claimed a double pole position at the Hungaroring, converting the first of those into a race win. With two other podium finishes he ended the year seventh in the standings.
“I’m thrilled to be making the step up to FIA Formula 3, and to be doing so with Hitech,” the 18-year-old said. “It’s been a strong season for me and the team in GB3 and I’m proud of everything we achieved together. The results were there but we also had a bit of bad luck along the way that could have brought us even greater success in both title fights.
“I feel ready and I hope to play a big part in ensuring Hitech’s F3 challenge is as strong as it was this season.”
Xie is the first driver confirmed for Hitech’s 2025 F3 line-up ahead of post-season testing beginning on Tuesday.
“Gerrard is ready for Formula 3,” added Hitech F3 team manager Paul Bellringer. “I’m confident he will be a significant force within our line-up for next season and we’ll be able to fight for both championship titles once again.”
