Frederik Vesti wins first Hungaroring Formula Regional race

by Peter Allen

Frederik Vesti

Frederik Vesti converted the first of his three Formula Regional European Championship pole positions at the Hungaroring into victory in race one to increase his points lead.

Vesti made a strong getaway to lead Prema team-mate Enzo Fittipaldi into the first corner, and although he was pressured by Fittipaldi in the opening stages, Vesti pulled away to win by 3.37 seconds for his fourth victory in six races.

Olli Caldwell rounded out another Prema podium lock-out another three seconds back, even though David Schumacher and Sophia Florsch got alongside him off the start.

From sixth on the grid, Marcos Siebert got an even better start than US Racing team-mate Schumacher or Van Amersfoort’s Florsch, and claimed fourth on the inside of the first corner.

By running wide over the kerbs, Florsch lost fifth to Igor Fraga, and was soon also passed by Schumacher.

Later in the race, those four drivers closed up once more, but Siebert held on ahead of Fraga, who in turn kept Schumacher and Florsch at bay.

Raul Guzman was close behind in eighth, with the KIC Motorsport pair of Isaac Blomqvist and Konsta Lappalainen rounding out the top 10.
