Frederick Lubin steps up to Euroformula with Motopark

by Ida Wood

Frederick Lubin will race in Euroformula this year with Motopark after the conclusion of his Formula Regional Asian Championship campaign.

The 17-year-old is currently racing in the United Arab Emirates with Evans GP, and sits 12th in the FRAC standings after the opening round last weekend.

He is in his third year of car racing, having graduated from karts into British Formula 4 in 2020 and come ninth in the series, then moving up to GB3 (then known as BRDC British Formula 3) for 2021 with the team and picking up two podiums.

“Really happy to have joined such a professional team such as Motopark,” said Lubin.

“They’ve got some really fantastic results and they are a really good bunch of lads. The winter testing I’ve done with them has gone well and I’ve learnt a lot so I’m excited to see what we can do during the season. I’m sure we will get some great results and I can’t wait to get going.”

Lubin’s 2021 was interrupted by a diagnosis of myocarditis, a serious virus which causes inflammation of the heart muscles. It led to him missing two rounds and finishing 11th in the standings, but after recovering post-season he was able to join Motopark for tests in the Dallara 320 at Estoril and Barcelona. He also tested with Carlin at Silverstone.

“We are very happy to welcome Frederick to the team. He has done a good amount of winter testing, he’s showed great pace,” Motopark’s team principal Timo Rumpfkeil said.

“We have good previous experience with drivers from GB3, so we are really hoping for him to progress in the same manner. Lots to learn for him in terms of circuits, so we are preparing him in the best possible way for this and looking forward to have some strong results with him during the season.”

The 2022 Euroformula grid now has four confirmed entries, with Motopark having signed Lubin and Alex Garcia, its Japanese offshoot CryptoTower Racing Team fielding Christian Mansell and Czech team Effective Racing joining the series with Vladimir Netusil.
