The 2022 Formula Regional European Championship calendar will have less Formula 1 support slots than this year’s, but will retain its spot at the Monaco Grand Prix.
The ACI Sport-run series will begin its season with two rounds on home soil in Italy, with Monza (April 22-24) followed by Imola (May 6-8).
FREC races on the streets of Monaco for a second year running on May 27-29, and at Paul Ricard a week later where along with racing at Zandvoort on June 17-19 it will support GT World Challenge Europe.
Rounds at the Hungaroring (July 8-10) and the Red Bull Ring (September 8-10) will be in support of Euroformula, and between those is a vist to Spa-Francorchamps on July 27-30 on the days immediately before the Spa 24 Hours race.
The championship concludes in October with two rounds a week apart. Barcelona comes first on October 14-16, then the season finale at Mugello.
Before the rounds at Monza, Zandvoort, Hungaroring, Spa, the Red Bull Ring and Mugello there will be official pre-event tests.
Formula Scout understands that JD Motorsport will be absent from the grid next year, with reigning FIA Formula 3 champion team Trident heavily linked to taking its place as a three-car entry.
Trident’s interest in joining FREC first emerged over summer, although at the time both it and JD declined to comment on if the two Italian teams would be swapping in and out of the championship for 2022. Since then however it has been Trident that has been mentioned by drivers looking for seats in the series next season.
Franco-Spanish operation CAP Racing, owned by the family of former F1 racer Charles Pic, is also planning to enter FREC in the future.
