Joel Granfors will graduate to GB3 with Fortec Motorsports this year after winning with the team in British Formula 4 last season.

Granfors won the Formula Nordic title in 2020 after stepping up from karts, before making the move into British F4. There he was in title contention until the final round and finished up fourth in the standings, having claimed one win on the August visit to Thruxton.

“I’m thrilled to be stepping up to GB3 this year,” he said.

“It’s been a very interesting winter in many ways since I first tested the car, and we now feel confident that we’ve got the best possible package in place with Fortec to go and fight for the championship.

“We learned a lot in F4 last year and I’m very, very excited to build on that in 2022. I feel that GB3 is exactly the right place for me to be this year and I can’t wait to get started!”

Granfors will partner fellow Scandinavian racer Mikkel Grundtvig, who remains in Fortec’s GB3 line-up for a second year.

“We are ecstatic to welcome Joel back for another year with us at Fortec Motorsport,” said team manager Oliver Dutton.

“He was a great asset last season and instantly on the pace again in testing this winter. His driving style is very well suited to the GB3 car.

“I am convinced that we can mount a serious challenge at the front this year and we look forward to another successful season together.”

Granfors becomes the 16th driver confirmed for the 2022 GB3 season which begins at Oulton Park on April 16-18.
