Cem Bolukbasi is set to return to Formula 2 action for this weekend’s races in Barcelona after missing the last round at Imola with a fractured rib.
The Charouz Racing System driver’s comeback is subject to passing a routine FIA medical examination on Thursday.
Bolukbasi’s has endured a tough start to the 2022 season with hefty crashes in free practice in Jeddah and again on the first morning of testing at Barcelona, on top of a start-line collision in Formula Regional Asia at Yas Marina in January.
Having been forced to miss the rest of the three-day test at Barcelona, Bolukbasi will be playing catch-up with his rivals, although he does have previous experience at the venue from Euroformula Open, taking a pole position and a race win there last October.
“After missing the two rounds in Jeddah and Imola it feels amazing to be back,” said Bolukbasi. “I’m super excited and I can’t wait to hit the track in Barcelona.”
Team owner, Antonin Charouz is naturally glad to see his driver return to the cockpit: “First and foremost I’m truly happy to welcome back Cem, I hope he’s back in a perfect shape and I’m sure he’s really looking forward to get back in the car and pick up from where he left.”
The team arrives in Barcelona on a high after Bolukbasi’s team-mate Enzo Fittipaldi took a strong second-place finish at Imola.
“I’m quite positive that it’s gonna be a very close fight weekend for all of us,” Charouz added. “We’re ready to give it all and hopefully bring home another good result”.
