FIA Girls on Track reveals full Rising Stars longlist for F4 shootout

The longlist of 20 drivers contesting the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission’s new Ferrari Driver Academy-affiliated Girls on Track Rising Stars programme have been named.

Of the 20, only one of those is already in single-seaters – Danish Formula 4 racer Juju Noda – and most are competing in karting.

Female drivers aged between 12 and 16 were eligible for entry to go through a shootout proccess that could earn them Ferrari junior status. The longlist had already been decided upon when the ‘Rising Stars’ element was announced in June, and several names were revealed in the weeks after.

Famed French racing school Winfield Racing School will host the shootout at Paul Ricard on October 12-16 using Praga karts. At least eight of the drivers will be dropped after the first two days, as a F4 element is introduced to the assessment proccess.

Just over two weeks later will now be a repeat shootout at the circuit involving the F4 and karting elements, and a maximum of eight drivers will qualify to that stage. That will then be wittled down to four or less, with the lucky few enrolling on a one-week course with the FDA in November.

Subject to meeting an assessment standard, the best of the drivers on that course will become a Ferrari junior for 2021 and race in a European F4 series. The FIA support will go alongside Ferrari’s for one year or two, and the Formula 1 team then has total independence on whether they retain the winning driver for any time after that.
