Red Bull juniors Crawford and Edgar fastest in pre-event Italian F4 test

Red Bull juniors Jak Crawford starred for Van Amersfoort Racing in Italian Formula 4’s pre-event test at Mugello.

Crawford set the fastest lap of the day in the seventh session of the day, shared with Formula Regional European Championship cars, and fellow Red Bull junior and VAR team-mate Jonny Edgar was close behind to end the day third overall.

Separating the pair in the combined classification was Prema’s championship leader Gabriele Mini, who topped the two afternoon sessions which were solely for F4 machinery.

In the third shared session it was only Jenzer Motorsport’s drivers running alongside the FREC cars, and Filip Ugran set the F4 pace.

BVM Racing’s Pietro Delli Guanti was the quickest F4 driver in the second shared session and ended up just over two tenths off Crawford’s pace in fifth place in the combined classification. Ahead of him was Prema’s Ferrari junior Dino Beganovic.

Nico Rosberg’s karting protege Taylor Barnard was sixth fastest ahead of his single-seater debut at Mugello this weekend, with session one pacesetter Gabriel Bortoleto (Prema), session four pacesetter Francesco Pizzi (VAR), Leonardo Fornaroli (Iron Lynx) and Sebastian Ogaard (Bhaitech) completing the top 10.

EDITED: A timing and paperwork error had Matteo Nannini registered for one session with Jenzer, and Igor Fraga for one session with VAR despite both being absent as they prepare for FIA F3 testing. After communicating with the parties involved, this report has since been updated.
