Antonio Felix da Costa bounced back from the disappointment of Saturday to claim pole position for the second Formula Renault 3.5 race at Monza after a battle with Stoffel Vandoorne in a wet qualifying session.

After retiring from the season opener as Vandoorne took a debut victory, Felix da Costa finished the session 0.387 seconds clear of his Belgian rival.

Kevin Magnussen claimed third spot on the grid behind his fellow McLaren youngster, 0.662s away from Felix da Costa. Nico Muller finished qualifying in fourth place but will start from eighth as a penalty for colliding with Lucas Foresti early in Saturday’s race.

After starting second for race one, Sergey Sirotkin had another strong qualifying session and will inherit fourth place on the grid from Muller ahead of Foresti and his fellow Brazilian Pietro Fantin.

Will Stevens will start seventh ahead of Muller, while there was an improved showing from Marco Sorensen in ninth. Norman Nato will complete the top ten.
