Deagen Fairclough added to his British Formula 4 victory total with a second win of the weekend in race three at Zandvoort.
The Hitech GP driver led lights-to-flag in a race interrupted by red flags at the halfway point. His title rival Alex Ninovic ran into issues late in the race and finished outside of the points.
It was a race of two halves, but the top two positions did not change at all. Fairclough got a good getaway from pole position and had a comfortable gap back to team-mate Reza Seewooruthun in second. Seewooruthun was just beginning to close that gap when an incident further down the order stopped the race.
Argenti Motorsport’s Rowan Campbell-Pilling had been battling in the midfield when he went three-wide and off the track. He rejoined ahead of a group of cars, which included Nina Pothof, Zack Scoular and Leo Robinson. One car span to try to avoid the slower moving Campbell-Pilling, and two more were scattered wide in avoidance.
Campbell-Pilling, Pothof, Scoular and Robinson were all wiped out and red flags waved.
The incident put Ninovic on Seewooruthun’s tail for the restart, with the Rodin Motorsport driver having previously been stuck behind Virtuosi Racing’s Martin Molnar for a number of laps and with Fortec Motorsports’ Kai Daryanani not far behind. Ninovic managed to snatch third just before the race was stopped.
On the restart, he could not stick with the front two and both Fairclough and Seewooruthun began extending their gaps again. Ninovic tried to stay ahead but was forced into the pits with an unknown issue, dropping him to the back of the pack.
The top two were then unchallenged throughout the remainder of the race, with Rodin’s Jack Sherwood and Daryanani in third and fourth. Molnar finished fifth and held onto the rookie class win ahead of Ernesto Rivera, who finished just behind him on track.
Ella Lloyd took seventh ahead of Bianca Bustamente, Matus Ryba and James Higgins.
