Esteban Ocon quickest as Eurocup Aragon test comes to an end

eurocupART Junior Team driver Esteban Ocon finished off the second day of Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup testing at Aragon on top after a clean sweep of both sessions today.

Session one began with ex-Ferrari Driver Academy driver Brandon Maisano setting the early pace before Fortec Motorsports drivers Mikko Pakari, Ed Jones and Jake Dennis traded times at the top of the board. Shortly after Dennis went to the top, Ocon crossed the line with a lap time of 1:55.894, which was quicker than his lap record set in 2012.

Ocon remained at the top for the rest of the session, except for a brief period when Koiranen Motorsport?s Victor Franzoni went to the top, but Ocon was able to go even quicker an hour left in the session. It was a relatively incident free session, with the red flag only coming out once during the second hour after Alejandro Abogado stopped at turn 16.

It was again the young Frenchmen Ocon who finished top in a hotly contested second session with 21 drivers all within one second on Ocon?s time. It was again Prema Powerteam?s Maisano who led the way early before Oliver Rowland and Pakari trade times at the top. Ocon went to the top shortly before the hour mark and remained until, with just under an hour remaining, Nyck de Vries jumped to the top of the time sheets. But it was Ocon who would have the final laugh, going 0.039 seconds quicker and extending his lead two laps later.

The Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup teams will be back in action at Paul Ricard in France on March 5th & 6th.
