MP Motorsport’s Lorenzo Colombo topped the mid-season Formula Renault Eurocup test at Spa-Francorchamps, which was hit by sweltering temperatures.
As the day went on, the air and track temperature got hotter, meaning conditions were at their best for the tyres during the early morning session.
Colombo set the pace there by 0.183 seconds from R-ace GP’s Oscar Piastri, who were the only two drivers across the day to break into the 1m19s.
Kush Maini set the pace in the second session of the day, enough to put him into third for M2 Competiton ahead of Colombo’s championship leading team-mate Victor Martins.
The third MP car of Amaury Cordeel was the last to get within a second of the overall pace in fifth, with Arden’s Patrik Pasma putting in a strong lap in the afternoon to go sixth fastest.
Less than a tenth of a second covered the gap between Pasma and ninth placed Franco Colapinto, who will be making his Eurocup debut this weekend with FA Racing by Drivex. The Argentinian was third fastest in the final session of the day, and was quicker than both of his team-mates.
Callan O’Keeffe, whose Drivex seat Colapinto has essentially taken, was 13th fastest in his first outing for M2 Competiton. The South African’s one-off deal for the weekend was finalised the afternoon before the test.
