Swiss rookie Ralph Boschung inherited his first victory in ADAC Formel Masters, getting the full 25 points after original winner Alessio Picariello was penalized post-race.

The Belgian, who wrapped up the series title earlier during the Slovakia Ring round, crossed the line in first place after a very strong drive from seventh on the grid. However, the stewards took issue with Picariello massively slowing down at the checkered flag and subsequently awarded him a time penalty of 30 seconds. As the field was bunched up following a lengthy safety car period, the penalty put the Mucke driver outside of the points.

Boschung, commenting on the situation, said: “Alessio slowed down too much on the front stretch and it almost resulted in a collision between us. I had to react quickly to dodge”. The Swiss driver also stated that would have hoped to win his first race in the series in “different circumstances”, but feels the victory was deserved.

Stefan Riener was another driver to receive a 30-second penalty post-race, which, likewise, put him outside of the top ten.
