EuroInternational’s Tom Blomqvist has been declared the race one winner for the European F3 round at Norisring after the man who finished first on-track, Raffaele Marciello, was given a post-race penalty among 11 other drivers.
Blomqvist finished eighth on the road and was due to inherit one place as Felix Rosenqvist found himself provisionally disqualified for a fuel issue in qualifying. However, in a race that saw multiple yellow flags in the busiest sections of the track, the top seven ahead of Blomqvist found themselves penalized for not slowing down sufficiently for the yellows, giving the Brit his first win in the series.
Among the penalized were the Prema trio of Raffaele Marciello, Alex Lynn and Lucas Auer who completed the original podium. Fortec’s Felix Serralles and Pipo Derani, Alex Sims, Nick Cassidy, Carlin teammates Jordan King and Jann Mardenborough, Mucke’s Roy Nissany?and Michael Lewis as well as local driver Lucas Wolf also received time penalties. All of the aforementioned drivers found twenty seconds added to their race clocks for not respecting double-waved yellow flags.
As such, the top ten has been completely altered from the original finishing order. Blomqvist is classified in first, ahead of Carlin’s Harry Tincknell and ma-con’s Andre Rudersdorf, who takes his first podium in the series. Eddie Cheever takes fourth ahead of his demoted teammate Marciello, with Sandro Zeller leading the other two Prema cars of Lynn and Auer in sixth. Rounding out the top ten are Serralles and Sims.
