Benjamin Pedersen will return to Formula Regional Americas with Global Racing Group for this weekend’s season opener at Mid-Ohio.
The 20-year-old Dane first raced for the team in United States Formula 4 in 2017, in which he finished fourth in the points with three wins. His second season included a further two wins, and he also stepped up to FRegional Americas with the squad.
His part-season in the inaugural edition of the championship resulted in third in the standings and 10 podiums from 11 races, and he was then title runner-up in another part-time campaign last year with seven wins from 10 starts.
“We are going racing! Joining Global Racing Group for the opening round of the Formula Regional Americas championship at Mid Ohio next weekend,” said Pedersen. “Full send boys and so nice to get back on track!”
GRG is set to have five cars present for round one of the season, with Pedersen joining fellow returnee James Roe Jr, reigning Atlantics champion Dario Cangialosi, French F4 graduate Nicky Hays and BRDC British Formula 3 champion Linus Lundqvist.
As in 2019, Pedersen’s primary racing programme this year will be BRDC British F3.
He took one win and one other podium in an otherwise difficult rookie season with Douglas Motorsport, and has moved to Double R Racing during the off-season to partner British F4 graduates Sebastian Alvarez and Louis Foster.
The 2020 BRDC British F3 season is scheduled to start on August 1/2 at Oulton Park, which clashes with FRegional Americas’ round at Barber Motorsports Park.
There is one other schedule clash between the two series, although travel restrictions brought in as a result of the coronavirus pandemic means Pedersen and others would be unlikely to run in both once the British F3 season begins.
